Centurion Vehicles: VindicatorI reluctantly improve my marines. Everyone plays marines, and I don’t like to follow the pack. Why else would I play this game anyway? Or have these other hobbies? Or look the way I do? However, Games Workshop never neglects the marines, unlike my beloved Tyranids. Also, after playing them a bit during The Eye of Terror Campaign in summer of 2003, I found they were kind of fun to play. A bit of modernization was in line and I started finishing and collecting Centurion Space Marines again. While in Salt Lake, I visited a little hobby shop that was trying to empty their inventory so they could buy more for the fall. All their stuff was 35%. Even with taxes, it was a steal. They had 2 Vindicators for sale and I snatched up one of them. I called Jeff and told him about the other which he later bought. Besides being a bargain, Games Workshop no longer makes this model. They’ve turned over production to Forgeworld who makes a conversion kit. I figured I saved about $30 on my purchase. Since I had just finished my Razorback and Whirlwind, I had a system for painting vehicles and quickly built up this bad boy. There was no chance of converting the kit, giving it optional weaponry like I’ve done, so the build up was easy. I primed the kit with Pasti-Kote Black Spot filler primer. I used Americana Dioxazine Purple for the undercoat. I could barely see this dark purple over the black, but I needed to mix some up for the last coat. I used Americana Lavender to highlight the armor panels. I then lightened the same color with white and highlighted it some more. I deliberately over highlighted the model. It looked terrible and gaudy but I brought the whole thing together with a fine mist of the dark purple base coat. I’ve found misting a darker color brings colors together like nothing else. Once again I had a great purple bubblegum glowing tank. I picked out the details with a black undercoat and acrylics. I sealed it with Dullcoat for protection, took some pictures of it and here we are. I haven’t played it yet, but I suspect it’ll be a wonderful bit of armor - particularly with the new vehicle rules GW has distributed. |
