Centurion Vehicles: Predator 3rd Edition (Annihilator)

Three ConfigurationsMy Centurions were defined in the later editions by their lack of armor and mobility – basically they didn’t have any new models to speak of. This is quickly being remedied. Obviously the Emperor has chosen to re-supply his beloved Centurions.

Enter the 3rd Edition Predator. I already had the second edition one but I wanted options and having time and borrowing money, I picked up this little gem.

Building it was straightforward. It’s based on the new Rhino model. There’s a complete unpainted interior in it, complete with bolter racks and radar screens, but having doors open in a tank is kinda like screen doors in submarine. So take my word for it that the interior painting rivals Michealangelo - it's even got working lights, sound and functioning active and passive radar screens with anamatronic Space Marines calling out firing coordinates in Sean Connory's voice. Pity, you can't see it.

The main change I made to the model was to replace the flimsy sponson connectors with Rare Earth Magnets. This allowed me to build both the heavy bolters and the lascannons and swap them out as I see fit. It makes the model a much more versatile and durable gaming piece.

I also made the pintel-mounted storm bolter removable. I can replace it with a hatch cover. I couldn’t find an easy way to make the turret gun interchangeable, so I went with the lascannons – my other predator is the autocannon version (Destructor).

Having painted so much armor lately (Whirlwind, Vindicator and Razorback) I had a system for the armor. I started with a black undercoat then went over it with a dark purple. You can hardly notice the purple over the black. I then airbrushed a very light lavender on the tank, careful to leave the shadows in the crevices. I then misted dark purple over the vehicle to blend and mute the color. Once again this worked like a charm. I dry brushed the hard edges a bit with, picked out the details leaning on Bronze for Chapter consistency and viola, another purple tank!
